In his civil assignment\, he was a member of the court’s ADR Committee\, where he helped develop and participated in multiple settlement programs. He also settled hundreds of family and civil cases. \nJudge Lucky is a passionate technologist who has built and programmed computers for decades. His contributions to the computer programming website Stack Overflow put him in the top 11% of over 14 million worldwide users in 2021. Judge Lucky has been an instructor for multiple organizations on virtual ADR. He is sought after to teach lawyers and judges throughout the state of California due to his ability to explain complex legal and technical topics in plain language. Feedback Judge Lucky has been recognized by numerous bar associations for his distinguished service and leadership as a jurist. He was bestowed the Outstanding Jurist Award by the Leo. A. Deegan Inn of Court\, named Judicial Officer of the Year by the Riverside County Barristers and jointly awarded the Family Law Legacy Award by the Riverside and San Bernardino bar associations. As the first Korean-American and first AAPI judge in Riverside County\, he earned the Trailblazer Award from the Asian Pacific American Lawyers of the Inland Empire. DESCRIPTION:Please join us for the first MCLE event of the 2023 calendar. \nAttorney Competency & Impaired Colleagues: The Warning Signs and Where to Go for Help\nThis program will provide information on: \n\nIdentifying and detecting substance use and mental health issues among attorneys;\nAn attorney’s duties regarding an impaired colleague;\nHow to discuss possible impairment issues with a colleague;\nDeveloping a self-care plan and wellness strategies; and\nKnowing where to find help\, including the Lawyer Assistance Program (LAP) and other resources.\n\nWe urge all our members to join this important discussion.\n\nSpeaker: Lita Abella\, Lita is a Senior Program Analyst at the State Bar of California\, where she conducts outreach and is an MCLE presenter for the Lawyer Assistance Program (LAP). Lita earned a Juris Doctor from Western State  University College of Law in Orange County in 2004. While in law school\, Lita was a law clerk for the Riverside District Attorney’s Office\, the Office of the Attorney General\, and a certified mediator for the Superior Court of Orange County.  \nLita is a Senior Program Analyst at the State Bar of California\, where she conducts outreach and is an MCLE presenter for the Lawyer Assistance Program (LAP). LAP assists law students\, bar exam applicants\, and attorneys with substance use and mental health issues.   \nPrior to that\, Lita worked as an investigator in the Office of Chief Trial Counsel where she investigated and assisted in the prosecution of attorneys for misconduct. She has been with the  State Bar for 10 years.  \nBeginning in 1980\, Lita served with the Los Angeles Police Department for 20 years\, breaking many glass ceilings as a female and minority. She worked various assignments including but not limited to patrol\, Internal Affairs\, narcotics\, and vice. She was a court-qualified narcotics expert during her years in law enforcement and attained the rank of lieutenant.  \nLita was a fitness instructor for 20 years and is currently a health and wellness consultant. She is nationally certified by the Athletic and Fitness Association of America. She is also a business owner for the past 23 years.   \nLita has served on many boards and committees within many organizations and entities. For the past seven years\, she has been a Library Commissioner with the City of Azusa. She is a proud  mom of a newly licensed attorney!

SUMMARY:MCLE Presentation – Fraud on the Supreme Court in Korematsu v. United States
DESCRIPTION:Constitutional Law Series \nFraud on the Supreme Court in Korematsu v. United States\nOur speaker Dale Minami is a Bay Area practitioner who represented Fred Koramatsu\, a Japanese-American businessman who refused an internment order during World War II. Korematsu was subsequently criminally convicted of violating the wartime order\, and his conviction was upheld by the United States Supreme Court in 1944 in Korematsu v. United States\, 323 U.S. 214 (1944). Minami and others\, four decades after the Supreme Court\, successfully sought to vacate the criminal conviction. Subsequently\, the Supreme Court’s decision has been strongly criticized by the Supreme Court itself\, the Civil Liberties Act of 1988 enacted\, and reparations paid to those interned.\nWe will hear living history in this MCLE discussion and we urge all our members to join this fascinating discussion.\n\nSpeaker: Dale Minami\, Esq.is recognized as one of San Francisco’s top Personal Injury lawyers and was one of the leading lawyers in the Korematsu v. the United States case. In 2019\, Mr. Minami was honored with the ABA Medal\, the American Bar Association’s highest honor.
