SUMMARY:MCLE Presentation – Fraud on the Supreme Court in Korematsu v. United States
DESCRIPTION:Constitutional Law Series \nFraud on the Supreme Court in Korematsu v. United States\nOur speaker Dale Minami is a Bay Area practitioner who represented Fred Koramatsu\, a Japanese-American businessman who refused an internment order during World War II. Korematsu was subsequently criminally convicted of violating the wartime order\, and his conviction was upheld by the United States Supreme Court in 1944 in Korematsu v. United States\, 323 U.S. 214 (1944). Minami and others\, four decades after the Supreme Court\, successfully sought to vacate the criminal conviction. Subsequently\, the Supreme Court’s decision has been strongly criticized by the Supreme Court itself\, the Civil Liberties Act of 1988 enacted\, and reparations paid to those interned.\nWe will hear living history in this MCLE discussion and we urge all our members to join this fascinating discussion.\n\nSpeaker: Dale Minami\, Esq.is recognized as one of San Francisco’s top Personal Injury lawyers and was one of the leading lawyers in the Korematsu v. the United States case. In 2019\, Mr. Minami was honored with the ABA Medal\, the American Bar Association’s highest honor. He is the first Asian American to receive the award in its 90-year history. \nDate: Wednesday\, August 31st\, 2022\nTime: 5:00 – 6:00 p.m.\nLocation: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/81810693453 (Passcode: 691059)\n\nThe HLS will apply for 1 unit of MCLE credit in California for this presentation\n
